The Women's Fund of Essex County Grant Award.
what we do is who we are.
We set young women up with the skills, tools, contacts, and self-confidence to successfully launch themselves into adulthood and in whatever path they choose. We are proud of the work that we do as an incubator of minority powerhouse women so that more Brown and Black chicas—of every culture and ethnicity—can reach their full potential. Our chicas are the core of what we do!
We are extremely proud and grateful to have earned The Women's Fund of Essex County Grant Award. This award is a one-year grant in the amount of $10,000.00 for the Youth Education & Mentorship for Latina girls in Lawrence. The Women’s Fund was established in February of 2003 for the purpose of raising and distributing funds in order to provide opportunities and promote solutions for women and girls in Essex County.
Since our founding, 280 chicaproject mentors have lifted up girls and young women so that they are able to pursue aspirations they originally felt were beyond their reach. Mentorship changes lives, builds confidence, and propels our chicas into becoming future leaders! Historically, in the ten years since our founding, 99% of the chicas who participate in our programs graduate high school and enroll in college. In 2022, we reached 100%! Every single girl who took part in our programming is graduating. WOOT!!
There is still so much to fix so that Women of Color get a fair shake. However, we are determined to continue playing our part in creating a world with doors wide open for young Women of Color.
“One girl, one teen, one young woman at a time, chica project will remove the barriers to entry that keep Latinas & Black Women down” — chica project.
