Navigating Mental Wellness in the Age of COVID.
Mental health matters. We’re here to support you.
The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic include more than just respiratory illness. According to the World Health Organization, in the first year of the pandemic, anxiety and depression saw a 25% increase worldwide. Multiple factors, including increased stress and social isolation, led to this dramatic rise. Additionally, young people and women tended to be the most affected.
So how do we manage our mental health while still navigating the lasting impacts of the pandemic? First and foremost, we should find a solid support system; this could be your friends and family, those that you trust. Seeking positive social interaction (while maintaining healthy practices like masking and handwashing) can be a great way to relieve stress and release tension. This article from the American Psychological Association shares more tips on how to effectively manage stressors, including staying physically active, getting enough sleep, eating well, and enjoying your hobbies.
Protecting your mental health is just as important as protecting your physical health. Continue to practice COVID safety measures, but take time to re-energize yourself by doing the things you love. Meet up with a friend, take a leisurely walk, indulge in your favorite book or movie. When we take care of our minds, our whole body is better off.
