chica project x HRIA: COVID campaign.

On January 30th, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the COVID-19 outbreak was a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, and on March 11th, WHO declared it a pandemic. The spread and speed at which COVID-19 has spread were alarming and took us all by surprise. As of January 2022, only 4 countries have not confirmed any cases of COVID-19; many of which are Pacific Island countries in Oceania. In light of this, chica project has embarked on a communications campaign that seeks to raise COVID-19 awareness and response.

This campaign is aligned with the Health Resources in Action (HRiA): Covid Communities Connect effort to prevent, contain, and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in the Boston area. Covid Communities Connect presents a space for grantees to network and learn more about each other’s work and foster opportunities to collaborate to problem solve and celebrate.

The chica project Covid-19 public education campaign is a redesign and re-implementation of a micro-public health campaign to inform young Women of Color about how to prevent COVID-19, and increase their confidence in and uptake of the vaccines while reinforcing basic prevention measures such as mask-wearing and social distancing. Our campaign began in April and has already reached over 2000 persons via our social media platforms.

It’s August, which means we’re heading back to school! With what seems to be our new normal, it is important that we work with and around it to reduce hospitalizations and death. As you gather school supplies, remember to include the following to your shopping lists:

  • N95/KN95 masks

  • Additional masks

  • Hand sanitizers

  • Disinfecting wipes

  • Personal tissues

  • School supplies, to lower the risk of germs spreading.

In the 3rd year of the pandemic, The World Health Organization is still not ready to call an end to the global Covid-19 crisis. It may be less front-and-center in our lives, and we’re no longer wiping down our groceries. But we likely will be living with masks and taking care around Covid for years to come. Use https://vaxfinder.mass.gov/ to search for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment near you.

We’re all in. Protect yourself and others. Get vaccinated!

Let’s proceed into the next phase with CARIÑO & KINDNESS as our compass.
